Research Statement
I am a Professor of Public Health and Community Nutrition with an interest in the nutrition and health of Vulnerable Groups including Infants, School Children, Adolescent Girls and Women of Reproductive Age. I am passionate about improving their nutritional status through nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive programs. I have conducted several studies on these germane issues, which have resulted in over 40 publications in reputable journals. I am also passionate about providing social support to prevent them from being caught in the web of malnutrition and poverty, which has implications for their health and the ability to reach their full potential in life.
I conduct my research using (i) Randomized Control Trials for interventions; (ii) Product Development/Sensory Evaluation for the introduction of healthy and affordable foods using locally available food items; (iii) Social/Behavioural Research using mixed methods for strategic research designs to identify areas of intervention and (iv) Community outreach programmes. I have secured a couple of grants and continuously write proposals for funding my projects.
I collaborate with other researchers within and outside my institution from different fields to address the multifaceted, multi-sectorial and multidisciplinary nature of my research.
Currently, I am developing a nutrition mobile app to improve the dietary behaviour of adolescent girls in Nigeria. The app is in its pilot stage.
I advise in the establishment of nutrition departments and develop curricula for undergraduates and postgraduate programmes. My commitment to advancing Public Health and Community Nutrition, particularly for Vulnerable Groups, remains unwavering. Through the integration of innovative methodologies, collaborative partnerships, and a passion for real-world impact, my research strives to address pressing challenges in nutrition and health.
